Picture algebra for interface with pictorial database systems

An i n t e g r a t e d approach f o r a p i c t o r i a l d a t a b a s e system i s proposed. It w i l l handle t h e n o n-p i c t o r i a l d a t a and p i c t o r i a l d a t a i n a uniform way i n order t o allow f o r g r e a t e r f l e x i b i l i t y f o r p i c t o r i a l information r e t r i e v a l. The d i s t i n c t i o n of l o g i c a l view and p h y s i c a l view o f p i c t u r e ob-j e c t s i s discussed.
